Community Service Committee

The Community Service Committee represents Rotary in-action. The committee’s main mission is to help our local community thrive. As a committee, we will select the service projects that best support downtown LA and promote LA5 to the community. These service projects will give club members the opportunity to do “rotary” together.

First Responders Committee

This group will be working to create events that will show our respect to the first responder community. The goal is to continue the positive impact through various initiatives and events. This can be accomplished by working closely with club members and outside entities to collaborate and to share their thoughts.

Peace Committee

The LA5 Peace Committee is devoted to learning about what peace is, and actual engagement in peace building activities. We are now a Rotary “peacebuilder” club by joining the Rotary Action Group for Peace (RAGFP) network (www.rotaryactiongroupforpeace.org), which is a resource to the Rotary community to engage, educate and empower the Rotary network to advance peacebuilding worldwide and in our own communities.

Program Committee

The Program Committee is part of the life blood of LA5. This is a vibrant and connected group of people. We meet on a regular basis to create the speaker program for the club. The committee looks for members who are looking to get actively involved in the ‘behind the scenes’ of the club. We look to you, the new committee member to call on your contacts and bring your creativity in order to make our speaker program the best that it can be.

Social Events Committee

The Social Events Committee for Rotary LA5 plays a vital role in fostering fellowship, engagement, and community among club members and their families. The committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a variety of social events that reflect Rotary's core values while providing fun opportunities for members to connect outside of regular meetings. These events may include awesome wine tastings, holiday gatherings, outings to see the High-Fivers band play live, and even an opportunity to dress up as your favorite actor/actress!

Southeast Asia Water Projects Committee

LA5 Rotary’s Southeast Asia Water Management Committee has helped to provide safe, clean water for underserved Villages and orphanages in Myanmar over the last 20 years. A humanitarian “water on demand” project provided water systems iserved over 50,000 people in need of clean potable water. The project is now expanding to other southeast Asian countries, including the Phillipines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Vocational Scholarship

The vocational scholarship committee works with multiple educational and local organizations who are involved with low income youth. From these partners, we solicit and review applications each year for young adults or those re-entering the workforce who want to get trained in a trade that can lead to employment. We hope to build foundations for individuals and families to enter and excel in the workforce where technical skills provide work readiness to enter the labor market.
