In August we started the conversation – how we at LA5 can learn more about, discuss, and further engage on social justice within our club and our community.

On November 6, we are pleased to invite you to “continue the conversation” featuring Mel Vines, a fellow Rotarian, who will present a thought-provoking discussion on cultural competence. He just made this presentation to the Central Coast Rotary District. Following his presentation to us, attendees will meet in small groups to explore these concepts.

Culture” represents the values, norms, and traditions as to how individuals of a particular group perceive, think, interact, behave, and make judgments about their world.  “Cultural competence” encompasses the ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.

Mel Vines is a 16-year member of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise. He has served as an educator for over 42 years and is now Assistant Principal at Simi Institute for Careers & Education.

Please join us for an informative presentation and engaging and enlightening member interaction.

Please note: the meeting duration will be 90 minutes.
