Join us for an inspiring Rotary Club meeting as we hear from a distinguished guest speaker , Jackie Broxton, CEO and President of the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation. This is an organization dedicated to uplifting current and former foster youth in Los Angeles by providing essential resources, scholarships, and a sense of belonging rooted in the legacy of Biddy Mason—a trailblazing nurse, philanthropist, and community leader.
Los Angeles native, Jackie Broxton serves as the President and CEO of the Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2013 and provides services and support to both current and former foster youth in Los Angeles County. Currently, Jackie is completing a series of six one act plays on conversations between Biddy Mason and other early Los Angeles settlers. She is a 40 year member of First AME Church in Los Angeles ,where she has served in a variety of leadership positions. First AME Church is the church Biddy Mason helped to create in 1872. Jackie has been recognized by the Black Faculty and Staff of Los Angeles Community College Association for her leadership within the foster care community. She is also a Community Outreach Director for the, Long Journey to Freedom, an international research project examining the life of Biddy Mason. We also celebrate the incredible impact Rotary International has on youth in our community and around the world. Discover how Rotary’s Youth Exchange empowers young people to expand their education and become global citizens through service and cultural exchange. We will get an inside look at this program with the help of amazing Rotarians Melody and Paul St. John, who have dedicated themselves to rotary youth. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn about innovative resources for youth.
The City Club maintains a dress code.
Attire can certainly elevate or diminish the experience of others. They consider ball caps or beanies, tank tops, flip flops, distressed denim, shorts, team athletic attire, and t-shirts with no jacket as too casual for City Club LA. Their staff takes pride in their appearance, so they ask their members and their guests to respect their dress code at all times.
