Rachel Johnston

Rachel represents Los Angeles worldwide on behalf of Angel City Derby, California's best flat track roller derby league. Since 2010, I have skated on the top-10 ranked Hollywood Scarlets at WFTDA Playoffs and WFTDA Championships. I have shared the track with the best athletes in our sport and have been featured on espnW. I have coached and played all over the world -- from Japan to Sweden, Spain to Australia -- I've poured my whole heart into growing this sport, coaching athletes aged 6 to 60.

Rachel loves to ask thought-provoking questions and tell remarkable stories. Her work experience has spanned several industries, with the common thread of storytelling. She owes her industry flexibility to a love of people, ideas, experiences, and a willingness to change lanes and learn often. Early in her career, she was deep in the first big wave of social media lifestyle integration, producing social media content and user experiences at live events — well before content was king, when it was barely courting the social channels of the internet. From there, she went on to manage event partnerships for live events broadcasts on ESPN2, ESPN3 and Twitch, and has transformed the companies she’s worked at with direct measurable growth.

Rachel prides herself on quality of work, efficiency, content efficacy, and values transparent communicative working cultures. Most of her career has been developed at small companies, and she very many values working with small teams of versatile, resourceful, and creative thinkers. An independent and creative thinker grounded in practicality, she is a true Libra and a natural fit for the Rebellious PR team. Her experience in marketing brings a unique perspective to Rebellious clients and she is enthusiastic to wake up and do good work every day for our clients. In her free time, she has produced two award-winning feature-length documentaries, she roller skates nearly every day, and occasionally does stunt work for Film & TV in Hollywood.

“I have also carried my love of roller skating into the entertainment world in Los Angeles -- In my 11 years playing, I have worked on film, TV shows, commercials, and episode shorts that integrate roller derby. Most recently I consulted and coordinated all the skating for Birds of Prey - including training actress Margot Robbie. Before that I spent a season working on the Fosters, a youth family drama.

When I'm not skating, I'm a versatile communications pro with 15 years of experience in marketing, PR, and music/film/tv. I am currently vice president of Rebellious PR & Consulting where I focus my PR skills on marginalized and underrepresented founders and their companies that are looking to change the world. I oversee the health and wellness clients at my agency, with a particular focus on nonprofits and social issues that affect women”.
